Battery life Empty Battery life

Post  BBrally Wed Dec 26, 2012 1:04 am

My system only uses two wires (Rh and W1), so the battery only gets powered when heating is activated. If I turn the system to away and the heat doesn't come on for days or weeks at a time, who long till the battery is depleted.

I understand the wifi will be turned off after the battery gets below a certain point. Will I have to set up my heating schedule to turn on for a period every so many days to keep the battery charged and so that I can turn on the heat via wifi before I come back to the house after weeks of abscence? If so, how long should it take to charge the battery?

If your heater isn't reacting to the pulses, you should be fine. Just keep an eye on your battery voltage.

I installed the nests last month when the heating was coming on a few times a day. I then turned the nest to manually away and left the house for work, I still have another 5 weeks till I'm home.

Now I'm wondering if the system is pulsing itself to keep the battery charged. The relays and circulation pumps are certainly not liking that. I've now remotely put the heat back on in the house.

I'm now very dissapointed in the nest. Without ripping out a ton of gyproc to install a common wire, this thing won't do what I bought it for. It's now just expensive wall dressing.
