Dehumidifier
I installed a Aprilair 1770A in my house. I had to upgrade to a Gen2 Nest. There were some problems (all mine) with getting things working. The "*" connection can be changed to the dehumidifier function via the "pro" setup. One mistake I made was having the wrong dehumidifier type selected in the Nest. Originally, I had "dehumidifier with A/C" as my type. I had no action from the new unit and my humidity level selection from my Nest Account ( on the computer) only showed the water droplet symbols and NO percentage indication. I went back into the pro settings and found a "dehumidifier stand-alone" type. When I switched to this type, the unit came right on and my Nest account now shows actual selectable humidity levels under settings.
I am including a quick print of my Nest wiring to the 1770A unit.

Humidifier
I just installed a Healthy Climate HCWP3 humidifier on my furnace. I noticed that I was getting the same situation as you during the PRO SETUP. If I chose humidifier and heat, the system would not humidify. As soon as I set it up as humidifier only, it began to function correctly. FYI
By the way, I installed a solid state relay to interface between the Nest and the humidifier.

Humidifier - update
I decided to give the humidifier another go. I re-programmed the humidifier in Pro Setup as heat + hum. and noticed the unit is now functioning as expected. (???)
