control whole house fan instead of central air when logical

Post  rudygeek on Wed Aug 22, 2012 4:22 pm

NEST can already check the local weather.
Wouldn't it be great if NEST could control a relay to power on our whole house fan at night instead of turning on central air when the outside air is cooler than my indoor target temperature? Now THAT would reduce my A/C bill.

Example: Here in Denver it was about 90 degrees F yesterday, but last night it was about 50 degrees F. If I could run the whole house fan at night (during low electricity rates no less) and cool the house down to 65, my A/C might not run at all in the daylight as we let the temp creep back up.

Eco Breeze

You should look at products like Eco Breeze, you don’t have to worry about humidity or opening and closing windows. It installs in your window and runs automatically. Visit naturescoolingsolutions.com.

That makes no sense to install some window A/C units when I have central air. Window units when compared to central air BTU to BTU are less efficient and use more electricity than central air.

I second this
fan control is available in the cheapest of thermostats
this is really needed

why doews our 250$ not have it
minimum fan time per hour or intermitamt option is needed

Use Indigo

You could do this with Indigo and the Python NEST API

agree fully!

I agree this would a great feature. I live in Boise Idaho and all summer we have days in the 90 degree range, and quite cool nights and pulling in the air at night without AC would be awesome. As you say, the Nest already knows if it is significantly cooler outside and so could just run the fan if the difference was high enough. Leafy!
